COP21 - Mozambique is committed to working collectively to lead ambitious and universal economic agr


Speaking on the first day of COP21, the Mozambican Prime Minister, Carlos Agostinho de Rosario, said that developing countries face major challenges because of climate change, with floods and droughts intensifying more and more. The Minister also said that there are 175.000 mozambicans affected by drought and in need of urgent support and, in 2016, are expected to flood that will further worsen the situation.


"These weather phenomena affect the government's efforts to meet national priorities, especially food security, which is essential to poverty reduction" - said the Minister.


The minister also said that to deal with the phenomena of droughts and floods, it is important to reduce the risks to economies in adaptation and appropriate support for the means of implementation and adaptation measures are complemented with robust mitigation initiatives in order to mobilize financial and technical support.


"We are committed to working collectively to lead ambitious and universal economic agreements," said the Mozambican Prime Minister, highlighting the country's determination to protect the planet, through a consumption, production and sustainable management of natural resources.
